    ERFURT 1920 double dated luger

I have a double dated erfurt luger on the grip it is marked

Your marking is Police. I'll take a guess and say the "TH" possibly refers to Thuringa. I have had a couple of these polizei marked P08's over the years. Last one I had was a "1928" model marked to Luneberg , landes polizei waffe Nr. 1. Someone whom has better knowledge of Polizei markings will hopefully chime in with a proper translation of the town/city polizei markings on your P08.

James, as GEW98 posted, your P08 marking appears to be police. Interpreting the unit is problematic in that the pistol's marking does not conform to official police directives of '23 or '30.

"L.P." is the official designation for the Air Surveillance Detachment for Pomerania (Luftfahrt-Uberwachungs Abteilung Pommern). If indeed that is correct for your pistol then I would think the the "TH." indicates Thorn which was a fairly large city in Pomerania and a garrison town.

The "Nr. 855" probably indicates weapon number 855, which seems rather high for what I would think to be a small police unit.

There is a very nice web page that lists out what the police markings are supposed to be. It does not conform to anything that they have listed.

The 'TH' is the most problematic part to me. In my (very limited) experience police markings, when they use more than one letter for one word will have the second letter not capitalised. If it were either Thuringa or Thorn, I would expect it to be marked 'Th' not 'TH'. I also agree that the inventory number of 855 is exceptionally high and just adds to the mystery.

        Good luck!

thank you guys for all the input .. this is how it is marked
L.P.Th.Nr.885,, the h in the T.h. is a small letter h. the luger is dated 1912 then 1920 over that .the grip strap was marked to a mg company
but was x'ed out, it looks like it was marked 1.?.?.R.M.G.K.2. I'll try to get some pic's of it.
