    BYF K-98 Vs DOV K-98

How does the Brunn (Brno) made DOV code K-98 compare to the Mauser BYF code Oberndorf made K-98?

Hi Mike, how are you? I believe you are likely referring to "DOU" code for Bystrica and not "DOV". The Brno coded k98 is actually "DOT". I have all three, dou, dot and byf.....I love them all, although some may argue that byf is superior to those others made in Slowakei and the Protectorate, especially depending on years of production. But I honestly notice little or no difference. Take care,
    Joe

      My mistake, meant DOT.

One difference I know, not all will have the turned down bolt handle

Nope, the Dots have turned down bolt handles. Joe, which one is most accurate?

Accuracy requirements/testing criteria for all K98ks, regardless of production facility, were an across the board standard. If there are variances from rifle to rifle, I would not charachterize this as as attributable to any one facility or the other. One could possibly argue better stock inletting, fitment, etc to early Oberndorf, for example, but they all had to pass a standardized accuracy test before final inspection/proofing was completed.

All K98k's have turned down bolt handles. G24(t) rifles (which were produced at Povaska Bystrica - code dou) had Vz24 type straight handles. If you see any K98k with a straight handle (Vz24 or G24(t)...), it is a post-production addition/change by an owner (or in the case of Russian capture guns, arsenal) The bolts are interchangable, given proper headspace.

Believe it or not Gentlemen, I don't fire any of my K98s, not that I am against it, but I just don't have the time anymore with family, kids, ect. But I bet they all are very similar in quality.

I know the feeling, Joe...but I do still get to the range periodically.

As an aside, my most accurate K98k is a dot 1944 5 digit serial (very late, possibly 1945 production). It patterns very, very well.

But then...all of mine are Czech, except one lone bcd4, and I have not shot it yet. Oh, and a bnz43, but I haven't shot that one either. Oh, and the....never mind.

I love Guslofs, I feel like I have a cold heart though knowing these were made by concentration camp prisoners
