Can you have a MP40 or MP44 converted for semi auto instead of being torch cut?

The ATF considers any weapon, even a semi-auto, which fires from an open bolt to be a machine gun, so definately no on the MP40 unless it was converted to semi-auto before 1982. I'm not sure about the MP44.

This is a board dedicated primarily to converting semiauto torch cut MG42's and 34's. There is also a subgroup that deals with MP40's and 44's. There is a recent post dealing with an MP40 semiauto conversion, there are rulings that torch cut receivers CAN be rewelded by the ATF. You also need to think about 922.R compliance, and with the MP40 I'm sure you would need to get a Short Barrel Rifle permit from them for the MP40. Barrel length needs to be a minimum of 16" in order to avoid the SBR permit. Chris...

ATF's opinion is "once a machinegun, allways a machine gun". Thus the weapons have to first be destroyed, then they can be remanufactured as a self loader.

We all are going to hate the ATF a lot more if Nancy Pelosi, Diane Nazistein, and Chucky Smucker take over the majority here in 20 days. Feinstein, Pelosi, and Schumer have sponsored numerous antigun bills, and you can count the Assault Weapons ban, or something much worse going into effect. I read a piece one time that stated that one of their bills would actually be a confiscation on many semiauto weapons in the US, and their subsequent destruction, this stands out in my memory because it wasn't just evil "black guns", but M1 carbines were on the list as well.
Get out and vote, rally your friends to vote!

I hate the ATF.

I'm probably going to wind up in a dumpster somewhere with a hole in my head for saying this but I really feel sorry for the ATF. Honestly, they are essentially subject to the whim of politicians who are looking for cheap votes by pandering. They get constant s*** from the NRA and gun activists everywhere but every one of them that I have personally dealt with has been much more fair minded and pleasant than I would be if I were doing their job.

Give the poor ATF agents a break. Even most of the poor administrative rulings and the Waco/Ruby Ridge incidents have come about as a result of political pressure. I don't think they deserve to be the whipping boys that they so often are.

Ok then, I hate dianne fenstien because she owns assault weapons, so then why does she vote to get rid of them, and if they banned semi autos, they can have my semi auto 1100 if the pry it from my cold dead hands .
