    fg 42 mag?

    Hello,

I recently found this mag, i always assumed it woult be a BAR mag. But today i saw a picture of an fg42 with a similiar mag. When i try put in a .30-06 cartridge it will never fitt, but a 7,92 fitted fine! The mag was found in a german hole, i have found a other type of FG mag from the same place(last pic). What do you guys think, could it also be FG?

    Thanks already!

Example i found on the net:

The first mag is for the BAR.

          Polish

The first magazine is Polish for the Polish Model 1928 BAR in 7.92 cal.. Ie: 8MM.. The Polish BARs are basically the same as the US BAR... BILL

While Bill is correct about the Polish BAR, I still think the first mag is for a U.S. BAR. It is obvious to me that rust is preventing the cartridge from being fully inserted in the magazine. If you could provide us with the measurements of the mag the question can be easily solved. best wishes,
            jeff

I did some measuring and I am certain that the first mag is for an American BAR. I also believe the polish BAR used the same mags as the american BAR. Here are some measurements:
American BAR 30'06- Overall width including the weld seam in the rear- 3.500 inches or 88.90mm
FN 7mm mag- Overall width again including weld seam-3.540 inches or 89.89mm
FN 8mm mag- Overall width including weld seam-3.525 inches or 89.54
Minus around 2mm or .080 inches if you do not include the rear seam.

If you had the 30'06 round fully seated to the rear of your mag it would go right in, but there is a big blob of rust preventing the cartridge from going all the way to the back of the mag. Hope this helps,
              jeff

                Jeff, thanks for the research!

I just checked of there was any by rust inside, but that was nog the case. The mag is not designed for 30-06, it simpely don't fitts. So i think this very well could be the polish 7.92 variant!

This picture clearly shows there's no rust, the slide easely move's up and down:
