FN-1900 bringback

Here are a few shots of one of my favorite pistols. It is the FN-1900. One of the first commercially successful automatic pistols.
This one is a WWII bringback and is a good or typical example of the type of pistols that came home. The Germans loved pistols and used everything that they could get their hands on. Older guns like this were no exception.
The pistol has the rare early style FN grips without the logo. I can't explain why they are on this gun because it is not in the correct serial number range for these grips. I guess that the originals were replaced with these for whatever reason. However, this grip design was dropped early on because they were found to be too brittle for use....as you can see the right stock is broken. They were replaced by the more familiar "FN" logo style.
The holster is an original Belgian style holster and probably was with the gun when the Germans confiscated it. Thankfully it has remained together all these years.

Excellent little pistol. I like those early ones too... And as the quality of your photos goes up, so does the quality of your guns. Those Belgian holsters sure stand out in a crowd, don't they??

Pictures

Would you please tell us how you get your pictures to look so nice, are there program's I can buy that are not so complicated as photo shop?

I have nice firearms I would love to share but my pictures look just terrible.

I'm the worlds worst with a camera. I'll never forget the time they made me a photographer on the anual staff in High School. I'm not a sports fan....not by a long shot and back then I had never attended any of the games or stuff like that.....so it was a big mistake when they sent me to cover a big playoff basket ball game. I came back with the best photos I had ever taken...only problem was it was of the wrong team .

The best way that I have found to photograph is outside in natural light. Some of these guns, like the Walther's, are very hard to get good shots of because of their high polish finish.
I just wait til there is a clear day and the sun is not directly overhead and take the shots outside. Then I use microsoft windows picture manager to clean them up. By that I mean I simply hit the "autocorrect" button and it does all the rest. I have to resize them all because this sight requires a certain size. But that is all that I do.
I have seen how the guys do it for the books....they set up a light box in the house using pvc pipe and with white sheets. This works well but they also have much better cameras than I have. Mine is just a Nikon cool pix...not one of those high end professional jobs.

First of all i want to say that you have a nice gun there.
I have one to, but with a lower serialnr.
The grips on mine looks like this.

sorry for the blurred serialnr but i have the pic on a album on a site.
I know that the grips on my gun are original as it has been in the family since it was first purchased.
Im just curios when the different grips were introduced.

r.blue just from the little bit you show here you must have a truly amazing gun collection. Any one of the guns which you've shown would qualify as a 'crown jewel' type of firearm for a collector. I imagine walking into your gun closet would be a akin to a religious experience. Do you have any guns that aren't at 95%+ percent?

You really should start a thread in the collections display forum. It would be amazing to see all those beautiful guns lined up in one thread.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't know about a religious experience or not.....I try to focus as a collector...something that is very hard to do because we want it all. We can't have it all because Bill has most of it.

Condition is very important right up there with buying and reading books. Always buy condition unless it is something so rare that you most likely won't get a chance to get it again. You'll never go wrong buying excellent condition.

I know that I have posted this somewhere on the forum....the reason I'm photographing all of my stuff is that I want to put it on the computer. I had a computer back when the internet started out but it died and I didn't get another one until January of this year. So I had been out of touch with collecting via the computer. Finding this forum through Bill has been great because as I catalog stuff I can share it at the same time...... like a continuous gun show.
And a good example of why I want it on computer can be found on the thread I started the other day on a BSW police marked trainer. JoeW opened up a fine discussion on these rifles and the thread continued on into a broader discussion and more and more photos. Having everything on computer and being able to comment quickly and add photos is amazing.

I've looked at some of the collections posted on that thread you mention and some of the guys have some amazing stuff.
