    Depot Numbers

    sszza2:

    Just picked up a ten power jewelers loupe today and a very bright light and here is the final numbers after staring at this for a long time. There is an Eagle that has been overstamped with an "H", under that a clear eagle w/ swas, under that this code---VZa 1h4 No seven, and no Hza as I had said before, this is the best I could see. If this doesn't check out, I must give up! I shall never find out what depot did this stock.
    Thank you very much for your interest, and help. I want to get out side to get pics of this rifle, hopefully as good as the pics of the Mauser on this thread. They must have been taken in open shade. They are the best I have seen, and a nice rifle at that!
    Also. if you have a K98 MFGd by any one other than Mauser, you do not really have a Mauser but a K98 designed by Mauser and built by some one else,
    Is that a fair assumption? My BCD was assembled with parts from many differant contractors, with with letters and codes all over it. All correct!
    Thanks again, geopop

Such parts are evidence of Gustloff and/or subcontractor excess capacity which found its way to rework facilities.

      I have a Polish rebuild with a " Su " and number on one side of the stock disc and a waffen ampt on the other side.

          I once flew in a B-17, B-24, & a B-25. Next, I want to fire an 88 round.

              Geopop,

              I apologize but I am unable to make any association with an HZa location based upon the marking you listed above. If I had to guess the 'V' you are seeing is likely an 'H'. This would mean that the first three letters would be 'HZa'. The '1h4' marking may be a component of any number of other HZa markings.

                Depot Marking

                sszza2;
                Well, thanks any way, I guess I will have to abandon the search for that depot mark, if indeed it is a depot mark. With that 10 power glass, that sure looks like a "V" and not an "H". It is in the exact spot where I was told to look for a depot mark, and it was stamped under an "H" that was overstamped on a Eagle Waffenamp. Very frustrating, since this rifle is an all matcher except for the Mauser walnut stock and butt plate. I will double check again, it takes a lot of moving side to side and angleing the light, but I am sure that is a "V".
                Thank you for your trouble and interest. geopop
                By the way the stock and buttplate were re-serialed to 5017 and the font is correct.
