Very nice and interesting rifle...and excellent photos too.
Thanks for showing a good photo of the triggerguard area where the sling hole used to be.

This rifle is likely a depot refurb. There should be evidence of which depot did the rework in the form of a proof in either the pistolgrip area or rear of buttstock below the serial number. Depot proofs begin with the indicator of the depot Su, Kg, Mg, etc. and are followed by the number assigned. It is unlikely that some E/1 marked parts are indicative of Gustloff doing the rework. Such parts are evidence of Gustloff and/or subcontractor excess capacity which found its way to rework facilities.

                        Depo Marks

                        sszza2:
Just read your reply as to the depot rework marking, and was wondering if you have any info or heard of this one. looks like a 7HZA10?4. This number is on the wrist behind the trigger of my 1942 BCD all matcher. The only thing changed at the depot was the factory laminated stock for a MAUSER WERK
walnut one, 10 inch cleaning rod, All Mauser 655 Waff on the right side of the stock under H. Stock serial xed out and redone with 5017 also flat buttplate
re-serialed to 5017. This rifle is a beauty, all sharp numbers and waff. Nothing
scrubbed, given to me by a Vets widow about 12 years ago. I need to find out the depot to complete my research on this rifle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The third number is unreadable as I have indicated with a question mark. The seven is very faint, but the HZA is quite clear.
thanks a heap for any help geopop

                          Jeff:
Outstanding rifle and photo's, what a pleasure to see a nice Mauser for a change. I want to get pics of my 42 BCD and post them here, need to get out doors, flash is awful for any gun pics. Mine is all matching and a real beauty.

                            Hi all,

thanks for your nice comments and the additional info regarding the depot stamps. I think that there was a depot stamp on the underside of the pistolgrip, but it is too faint to decypher it.

@geopop: would love to see the pics of your 42 BCD

                            Regards,
                            Jeff

                              Geopop,

Could you please double check that marking. The HZA is certainly understood. I just need verification on what preceeds and follows it to research.
