    Colt M.1911

    Hello,

I see a lot of German weapons posted here so I'm not sure if there is any interest in US pistols, but I'll give it a shot.

I picked up this very nice 1917 Colt M.1911 & holsters up from a WWII Veteran. Some of the finish has worn off and is thin in spots, but the important thing to me is it's the original finish.

Also what's probably just as amazing is the gun made it all the way through WWII and is almost 100% correct for a 1917 Colt except for a 1945 Colt barrel. For me, I especially like the original double diamond walnut grips.

Well hope you like. Any opinions good or bad are welcome.

    Warm regards,
    Steve

            Steve,
Thanks for posting....that is a really nice one.
It's nice to see other WWI and WWII era pistols.
Was the modified holster with it also?
I'm with you ...the 1911's look better than the A1's.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad to see there's a little interest in these 1911's.

I did get both holsters with the gun though my knowledge on holster's is limited.

The US holster is marked G & K 1918 and A.G. and the holster that has been modified is unmarked.

                  1911 Pistol

Beautiful pistol! If I found one at a great price I'd grab one in a heartbeat! It just seems that I have a knack for acquiring PPK's and P38's, I haven't seen one 1911 within my price range yet! Chris.....

1911's are great guns and their prices reflect that ! ! !

To me at least, it seems if someone can pick one up for under 1K they are doing good and that's usually for mismatched/refinished one.

PS: Very nice 1911 Steve and a pretty hard year to find !

Great pistol! I too prefer the basic 1911 over the 1911A1.

Beautiful piece. I think this is the most attractive handgun design ever. I have a WW2 1911 A1 that was a gift from an SAS veteran. Unfortunately I had to get it deactivated to legally own it and take it back to Ireland. I also have the original British web holster the vet carried it in too (it has a cool field done camouflage job).

By the way has anyone got a few wartime 1911 A1 magazines they could spare? I need two for an ammo pouch.

Very nice rig, Steve. G&K is Graton & Knight, made IIRC in Worcester, Mass. It is considered by those who know about these things (not I) to be the best quality holster among WWI manufacturers.

My Model of 1911 Colt is also 1917, shipped November, SN 196xxx. Is it close to yours?

Wow thanks for the interest and kind words everyone.

Thanks for the holster information JT it's appreciated !

Now if I can just find a barrel p.h. marked somewhere between serial #'s 110,000 to 425,000 the gun will be 100% 1917.

Very nice indeed, I too love the double diamond grips.

How much is a M1911 in this condition? what is a fair price in the states?
