    Manufactures Code

I received my K98 this week. On a previous thread it mentioned manufactures codes. What number would constitute the code? Mine is stamped "dot" 1944, serial number on stock and receiver is 5897. How will the manufactures number be stamped? with a eagle and swaz near it or above it? Thanks in advance.

The makers' code for your K98 is the "dot". This is the code for "Waffen Werke, Brunn" which is in the Czech Republic.

This maker produced the famous G33/40 from 1940-1942. In 1943 they stopped production of the G33/40, and they were assigned to produce the K98 until the end of the war.

I have both a G33/40 marked "dot 1941" and also a K98 marked "dot 1944" by this maker. Both are very good rifles.

Thanks Matt. This is one of the S.O.G. K98s. The bore is in exellent condition (per my gun shop owner). It came without a ramrod and has black paint on many parts like the round ring on the stock etc. but with a little elbow grease and steel wool it should turn into a good shooter for only 220 bucks.

        Hi Jamie,

BrĂ¼nn is the German name for the city of Brno- about 15km north of the Austrian border.
