I don't know what the military law is on this, but technically if they can legally aquire it then they can legally bring it back. But I doubt that they will be able to kick from piles of surrendered / captured weapons to bring one back.

Recently a DShK was sold at an auction that had been smuggled back into NZ by a soldier stationed in Afganistan. Since he was a collector he was able to register the gun on his licence once it was in country.

However he had to smuggle it in first so a few military laws are sure to have been broken. This is why I said it was a grey area.

The NZ army doesnt allow personel to bring any foreign military items back into the country, as they are regarded as "war trophies".

However it can be done...from afghan i know of one gentleman who has brought back a couple of German M16 helmets ....russian belts... a russian radio etc through civi post.

I also know of one soldier who is currently sorting out the relevant paper war to bring a Russian SVD and a .303 P14 back to NZ.

Man, I wish I was in Afghanistan so I could bring back some German helmets, what are they doing there any way, and what is a P14 enfield? How is it different from a regular enfield? I cant wait to see your MP40 and K98k pics.
