      Gidday Josh,
Thank you for the tip. Yes, we have severals licence over here, for example - A licence (for bolt action rifle), C licence (for any machine gun but only firing blank) and E licence (all sort of machine gun - firing fully automatic with life ammo). There are alot of Australian gun collectors moved to NZ for this reason. Cheers Mike

          Hi Josh,
Yes, as long you have an E licence then you can ship any automatic machine gun to God zone New Zealand....
          Cheers

Do you have to be a citizen of New Zealand to own MGs? What is your MP40s ordnance code, can you post some pics?

                  Couple of corrections needed:

NZ Firearms licence (often referred to as A-class) allows you to own:
                  - Bolt action rifles/shotguns
                  - Lever action rifles/shotguns
                  - Pump-action rifles/shotguns
                  - singleshot/double barrel rifles/shotguns
                  - sporting semi-automatic rifles/shotguns.

B Endorsement (often referred to as your pistol licence) allows you to own and shoot up to 12 sporting/competition class pistols. These can only be used on a Police approved Pistol New Zealand range.
They are quite open in the types of pistols you are allowed to use so its common to see quite a range of guns from revolvers to 1911's and Glocks.

C Endorsement (collectors licence). Is for the collection of restricted weapons (pistols, and full-autos). Guns that are held on a collectors licence may never be used with live ammunition and may only be used with blank ammunition for theaterical purposes. However they do not need to be converted to blank firing. Recently the re-enactors won the right to class their events as theaterical events and so can use their C-category weapons at organised re-enactments. There is no limit to the number of guns you can have on a C, but they should fall in an area of collecting interest.

D Endorsement (dealers). For those that have a business in manufacturing, repairing, selling or renting firearms. Dealers may test fire the weapons with live ammo to ensure their suitability and safety.

E Endorsement (Military Style Semi-Automatic). Or MSSA our equlivant of the Assault Weapons Ban, except it hasn't lapsed This allows you to own and shoot non-sporting semi-automatic firearms. A MSSA is defined as one having of the following:
                  - Magazine capacity of more than 7 rounds (15 for .22LR's)
                  - Bayonet Lug
                  - Free standing pistol grip
                  - Flash suppressor
                  - Folding stock

Can you take it to the range and shoot it with live ammo?

Not allowed to live fire full auto, but one of my mates in the army who had a decent collection told me he gained permission once to conduct a "fire power demonstration" for his platoon on one of our ranges. More of a "yipee" i'd say.

At least they dont bugger the guns up like they do here, here they deactivate by cutting up the reciever.

Grey area. Technically no but I have heard of soldiers bringing back trophies and having them registered to their collectors licence.

I highly doubt that a soldier without a collectors licence could keep a war trophy.
