    Something Different ...a Springfield

Took some photos of my .22's the other day and this is one of my most accurate....which I hate to admit considering my love for the Mauser's
    It's a M 1922......NRA variation.
The more common military variaiton has the finger groove stock and a different style buttplate.
I felt Nick would like this considering his interest in the Marine's and their love of the Springfield and marksmanship.

My stepfather had one of those he got from DCM back in the good old days. One of the first guns I learned to shoot on.
I love the whole Springfield line. Years ago I bought a 1903 that was one of the China returns (Formosa). I cleaned it up and put it in a really nice straight grip stock I picked up at Rock Island Arsenal when I attended a course there. It has a 26 dated barrel. The first 1/4 in. of the inside of the barrel at the muzzel is countersunk. I once talked to an Ordnance officer who worked on the revamp program for Chang Kai Sheks military after they fled to Formosa. He said that many of the Springfields they had had good barrels except at the muzzel where overenthusiastic and improper cleaning ruined the crowns. They figured out that countersinking the inside of the muzzel 1/4 in. restored the accuracy with negligible lose of muzzel velocity. They were right. Mine is a tackdriver.
Thanks for posting pics of a very neat rifle, and if you ever decide to sell it, please keep me in mind,
                  Cheers,
                  Johnnie

Boy that is surely a purty rifle. I think those Springfield 22's are the cat's whiskers. Your's is a beauty. I've never seen a NRA variation. Gotta military one bbl dated 5/37 which must be at least a first cousin to your's. The workmanship on these little gem's is just marvelous. I've never had the courage to shoot mine, tho I know I should..

The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.
