Reproduction PPSH: quality and reenacting questions

I reenact and protray a simple soldat. My weapon is a fairly well restored K-98. However, I see that Military Gun Supply now sells a semi-automatic PPSH for about $695 wholesale.

Has anybody delt with this company? Are the PPSH-41 and PPSH-43 considered too "farby" to use as reenactment weapons?

I understand that both weapons are longer than original. That is due to BATF reasons, do it or go to jail. Personally, I don't think they look bad.

So, is the company honest? Is the gun not too "farby". Will reenactors accept the weapon? Is it common for a typical soldat to use a captured PPSH?

And, no, I will not buy the "blank firing machinegun" that is for sale. Why? It's near $2500 in price and can only shoot blanks. All of my weapons must be able to be used for dual purposes. I fully plan on getting a spare PPSH stick magazine, modify it and use it for hunting. The drum magazine will be used for reenactments.

I would rather see you at a reenactment useing the K-98 than that PPSH with the long barrel sticking out. Remember, you want to portray the average Soldat. I have also heard that these semi ppsh guns don't work all that well from several other reenactors.

Realistically? Paper. I will just target shoot with this rifle.

I could go up north in Michigan & hunt rabbits but would hever do that. Legally, I could take this round and deer hunt with it. But due to legal restrictions you can't hunt with a centerfire cartridge south of Highway M-46 in Michigan. So, when I do hunt deer it's with either a 12 gage shot gun or my trusty flintlock rifle.

If I deer hunted in northern Michigan, by the Army Guard's Artillery Range, I would use my powerful 8 mm Mauser or a soon-to-be-purchased '91 Mosin Nagant with a sniper package.

Your feedback has been taken into account. Now I'm leaning against this rifle. Why spend over $700 for something of limited value?

I will buy a reproduction French Model 1763 Charleville musket instead.

If you want a "Beutewaffe" for reenactment that isnt converted and still legal and original go for a russian SVT40 rifle. German soldiers often used it. There are many photos of German soldiers with these rifles.

We use blank ammo over here so yes the gun needs to work.

The length of the semiauto ones "as is" would be terrible for accurate reenacting. However, and I don't have the form number handy, you can apply for a SBR (short barrel rifle) permit. Once returned by the BATF you can have an accurate correct length PPSH, MP40 or whatever. Many of the semi auto PPSH's on the market are very unreliable.

I like the SVT idea suggested earlier, I had one and got rid of it, regret it every time I think about guns.... Chris....
