HI FELLAS! I AQUIRED A FRENCH MAB MODEL D 7.65mm FROM A FRIEND WHO WAS IN THE ANTIQUE AND ESTATE SALES BUSINESS. THE VET HAD PASSED ON AND THE HEIR AND SON SOLD THIS PISTOL AS PART OF THE ESTATE. WITH THE PISTOL THE SON GAVE MY FRIEND 2 PICTURES OF THE VET IN UNIFORM. ONE PICTURE IDENTIFIED THE VETERAN IN A 1942 PICTURE AND THE OTHER PICTURE SHOWED THE VET SMILING AND RELAXING IN GERMANY. THE CAPTION ON THE BACK OF THE READ; HARRY, BONN GERMANY, 1945 "LUCKY" SHOT A GERMAN WITH HIS OWN GUN. THE SON TOLD THE STORY THAT THE MAB WAS THE PISTOL THAT HIS FATHER HAD TAKEN AWAY DURING A STRUGGLE AND SHOT THE GERMAN. I THOUGHT IT TO BE AN INTERESTING STORY. I AM MOSTLY A LOWER END MEDAL,TINNIE AND DOCUMENT COLLECTOR AND HAVE VERY LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF FIREARMS. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE GERMANS DID UTILIZE MAB's AND IN GENERAL MANY AQUIRED WEAPONS ESPECIALLY TOWARD THE WAR END. COULD YOU TELL ME IF THIS INFOMATION IS ESSENTIALLY CORRECT AND SOMETHING ABOUT THE MODEL D MAB 7.65mm. THANKS!

Rodger,
The Mab D is a French pistol that is basically a copy of the FN Mod. 1910/22.
They tend to have very thin and sometimes what appears to be shrunken grips. The finish of the German occupation pistols will sometimes have a purple tint to it.
The German occupation pistols should be in this serial number range 47,000 to 97,000. The German acceptance stamps found on the pistols are E/WaA251 for E/WaAD20.
That is an interesting story behind the gun. Maybe you could get the son to write up the history of the gun for you and sign it.
Hope this helps,
R.Blue
