Best places (in America) to find Lugers?

Howdy, I am starting looking for my 1st Luger (WW2), do you guys know some good websites I should check out? I've been to GunsAmerica and a couple other places but haven't found much. I'd like to spend under $1000 if possible, though I know these pistols are getting harder and harder to find. Also, I'm hoping that I can find one with matching serials... fingers crossed.

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard that Simpson Ltd. is a good place to go for Lugers.

WOW, some very nice pieces but most seem a little out of my range. VERY good selection though!

P.S. I notice by your name you have or like the K98. Coincidently, I am currently starting the rebuilding of one from a stock I got off eBay... still looking for the rest of the parts though.

          Lugers....

Auctionarms.com, Gunbroker.com, the For sale section here on the forum, the for sale section on Gunboards.com for starters. Also, if you are back east I imagine you might have luck at local auctions. Do a google search for auctions in your state, then go to each auction house website, check them periodically, you might get lucky. I got a real nice German Helmet and some other items by doing this. Yeah, I'm Mid-West, so the local auctions aren't much help except for the big yearly GunShow. Gunboards.com sounds interesting, I'll take your advise and just keep a sharp eye.

I just looked through the Blue Book of Gun Values and it confirmed what I was fairly sure of - you are going to have a very difficult time finding a WWII military Luger in decent condition that hasn't either been reblued or had its bore almost totally shot out.

Be wary of the online auctions. In my limited experience, people are worse than the people on eBay about being deceptive about the condition of the guns without actually lying – check the return policy carefully.

I think your best bet would be a gun show. If you buy from an auction or a retailer and want a genuinely collectable piece, I would consider a more realistic price range to be between $1000 and $1200.

If your budget is fairly fixed, you can sometimes get a reblue for close to 1/2 the price of an untouched gun. If you want to shoot it a bit this might be the way to go. Most of the expensive Lugers are almost too valuable to ever actually shoot. If you are O.K. with a reblue you might try low-bidding on one at one of the reputible auction companies, like Rock Island Auctions or J.C. Devine Auctions. They are very good about disclosing the gun's condition. The Rock Island 'regional' auctions usually have a number of inexpensive reblues.

Yeah, I do plan to shoot it... so a reconditioned one would be fine as long as the serials are genuine. What kind of bids should I be putting in on a reblued??? Maybe $700?

                  THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

If you are looking to spend under $1k, then Simpson LTD would be way out of your league. So would Ralph Shadduck.

You can try www.collectorsfirearms.com. They sometimes have lugers, but condition, and prices vary. Also try www.checkpointcharlies.com.

Honestly though if you want a really nice luger, with a complete rig, at a very good price, go to the estand now, and buy the early Krieghoff police rework I have up for sale! Don't mean to plug my own stuff, but trust me, you won't find a better deal than that one!!
