I think you could better ask this question in the Firearms Forum or the Wehrmacht Equiptment Forum. This Forum is more for cases concerning medals and awards and not really for cases like your ZF4 case.

It stands a slight chance of being original. Could I please see a photo of the web strap? How is the top hinge attached? Wood screw or bolts and nuts? Could I also see a view of the bolts if they are present on the inside?

This can doesn't have the mistakes of the 80's repros, or the ones released about 7 years ago. But, they are always doing a better job. A few more views would give me a better feel.

JM, These wooden ZF4 scope cans are getting tougher to distinguish between the real deal and the reproductions.....However there are a few gents on the G/K43 forum who are pretty good at picking out the bad ones.....IF you're unable to get a satisfactory answer here, than by all means give them a try.....Bodes

These ZF4 boxes are very tricky...
Once the book "Hitlers Garands" came on the market in Europe lots of these boxes are found on the web, fairs, ...
If you compare the construction of these boxes with the ones in the book they are completely equal.
Mostly they have wear on the corners of the box and the web is different of the wartime one.

I agree Frank. They have improved these once the book came out. My guy feeling was that it was a new generation of fake box, but wasn't sure. The strap and hinge detail was what I needed to see in closer detail.

Who noticed the feature that used to be a good sign of an original? The fakes didn't have it before.
