    1909 Walther model 2

    Hello,

I have acquired this gun(walther model 2)and I was told that the holster is not original to the gun,I do not even know if it is German made.
    Any opinions on this holster?

    Thank you,

I would like to bring a correction to my first post, the gun is an early Walther model 5(an updated and revised model 2). It has six-groove rifling instead of 4( found on the model 2) and was introduced around 1913/1915.

im sure the gun is german made since walther is a german company, and because this gun was made at the beginning of the century which makes it more likely to have been made in germany. im no expert on holsters so i cant tell you what gun it is from but i can tell you it is from a small pistol seeing how the magazine holder is pretty short. pretty good gun

It looks like whatever the holster was for has a longer barrel.

The other thing that is not original on this gun is the grips. They should be bakelite/plastic, not wood and they should have a logo embossed on them. You can see what I'm talking about here.

IMHO the holster looks good. I have a couple of them very similar to yours...one that came with a Model 1914 Mauser (supposedly the gun and holster were liberated from the grandfather of the fellow I bought it from, but no capture papers, so...) The other came with a police-marked Mauser HSc and looks virtually identical to yours. (This one came from a gun store, but with the saeme story: the gun and holster were liberated by the guy who sold it to the gun store, but again, no capture papers to back up the story.) Since I can't post a photo here (I'm too cheap to buy a full membership) feel free to shoot me and email if you want some photos of the two holsters.

Thank you all for your replies

DamDSx; I knew about the gun being German made, the question mark is the holster,Bill is saying that it is for a Mauser model.

Keith; This gun had wood grips when it was brought back from Germany in 1945.(I remember reading from a collector's guide that it was an option in the Walther's catalog).

                Bill; PM sent.

                Regards,

                    Robert,
The holster is definately German and is WWII or pre WWII manufacture. The magazine pouch will be the key as to whether or not the holster was made for the Mod. 5. If it is an exact fit then it may have been designed for the Mod. 5.
However, these holsters are sometimes general purpose in the sense that they work for a variety of 6,35 autos.
The style of the holster, to me, looks to be WWII era. It could be earlier.
                    Hope this helps.

                      Robert,
Here is a photo of a Mod. 5 breakaway holster, possibly AKAH manufacture.

                        R.Blue,

Thank you for your great photo,I think that I will be able to provide you with a good clue .The gun came with its original magazine , the empty holster when it was acquired had a spare magazine in its pouch,it can be inserted in the model 5 and locked in place but i do not know if it is compatible.
Can the spare magazine be linked to a gun model or maker?
