    transporting firearms

Taking a family trip thru southern states(FL,Miss,Alabama,Lousiana,Arkansas)and Western states of Texas,New Mexico and Colorado.
Can I legally transport a hand gun that is "not easily accessable"driving thru these states??

I do not know the law regarding this issue in other states, but here in Iowa the handgun to be on the safe side I always put it in the trunk. A rifle I will take the bolt place it in the trunk and the rifle inside the car. But placing the entire weapon in the trunk is your best bet. In a mini van or SUV remove the bolt and keep the rifle seperate. I do not think you should have a problem as we have deer hunters from all over the nation come th southern Iowa to hunt.

Yes. You may travel with a firearm through any state in the ConUS as long as the firearm/possession is legal at your start and stop points. Federal law (1986 FOPA...18USC CH44 926(A)) protects your right to peaceable travel as long as the firearm is unloaded and not readily accessible/directly accessible from the passenger compartment, or if it is readily accessible, it needs to be in a locked container other than the glove box of your car. FWIW, most southern states are pretty gun-friendly.

OK, thanks for the feedback. Now,if I decided to bring one of my C+R NFA guns,I assume that unless local or state law prohibits them, the same rules apply.

Correct. However, if you hold a C&R FFL, and your machinegun is a C&R machinegun, you don't need to file a 5320.20. If your machinegun isn't a C&R, you still need to file a 5320.20 prior to travel. Likewise, BATF will not approve a 5320.20 to a locale that prohibits machineguns (or whatever type of NFA device you're wanting to transport.)
