AS A LONG TIME COLLECTOR,THEY ARE THINGS THAT WE SEE AND JUST HAVE A GOOD FEELING ABOUT,INSTANTLY. THIS PIECE ,ALONG WITH SOME DAGGERS CAME FROM A LOCAL ESTATE SALE AND ALL GAVE ME SUCH A FEELING.NOW,THE CODE IS bcd, with a 4,UNDER IT.ABOVE THE CODE IS A EAGLE,WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A Z 40.THIS ALSO APPEARS ON THE BOLT SIDE OF THE BREACH.THERE ARE OTHER EAGLE OVER N,ON IT AS WELL.THE SS, MARKING IS LOCATED IN SUCH A WAY,THAT YOU CAN ONLY SEE ABOUT HALF OF IT.THE STOCK IS ALSO MARKED,BUT WITH A DIFFERENT STYLE.THIS MARK IS LOCATED UNDER THE STOCK,BETWEEN THE TRIGGER GUARD AND THE HUMP.THIS IS COMPOSED OF A RECTANGLE WITH SLICED CORNERS AND INTERTWINED RUNES,SUCH AS YOU FIND ON THE REVERSE OF SS CHAINED DAGGER LINKS.THERE IS A R IN A CIRCLE ON THE BARREL AND ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER NUMBERS.WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

A couple points.
BCD code (Gustloff) did not assemble zf41 snipers. However, I have seen BCD marked receivers with final assembly proofing by other manufacturers which did assemble zf41 snipers.
The pictures are very unclear of the markings and numbering style. What I can see I am uncomfortable with.
The mark you describe as SS sounds like it may be the SS design approval marking found on SS/Police swords, allach porcelin, etc. This marking has never been found on legitimate SS marked rifles and given its purpose would be completely inappropriate. However, I have seen this marking applied to several different bogus SS rifles. The bottom line is that it takes much more than a single SS marking to make an SS rifle correct.

THANKS TO EVERY ONE,FOR THEIR REPLIES,I,VE HAD TIME TO DO A LITTLE RESEARCH AND RE-EXAMINE THIS RIFLE.FIRST SOME OF THE INFO. WAS WRONG,THE BARRELL,IS MARKED AND DATED,CH,WHICH IS FABRIQUE NATIONAL,AND DATED 43.THE CODE,WHICH I SAID WAS Z40 IS 749. THIS ONLY APPEARS IN ONE PLACE,DIRECTLY ABOVE THE bcd.THE EAGLE OVER N ,APPEARS ON RECEIVER,BARRELL,AND SIDE RAIL.MOST OF THE OTHER PARTS HAVE AND I OR 1,HARD TO SAY WHICH. THE FLOOR PLATE,TRIGGERGUARD,AND BANDS ARE ALL MILLED.THE STOCK HAS A EAGLE,WITH A H UNDER IT,AND NUMBERED .THE RUNES IN A SINGLE CIRCLE,APPEAR ON THE RECEIVER AND UNDER THE BARRELL. NOW HAVING SAID ALL THAT,I DO KNOW THAT GUSTLOFF WAS MORE OF A ASSEMBLER THAN ANYTHING ELSE,AND THAT EXPLAINS SOME THINGS. GUSTLOFF ALSO SUPPLIED RIFLES TO OTHER THAN THE ARMY DURING THIS TIME,AND ARE EAGLE N MARKED,ACCORDING TO AN ARTICLE BY JENSON.GUSTLOFF ALSO ASSEMBLED RIFLES WITH SNIPER BARRELLS,EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT INTENDED TO BE USED AS SUCH. NOW AS FAR AS THE RUNES,I CAN,T SAY WHEN THEY GOT ON THEIR,BUT THEY ARE CONSISTENT WITH ALL THE OTHER MARKINGS AND THE RIFLE ITSELF APPEARS UN ALTERED. THEIR IS OTHER FIREARMS THAT ARE MARKED SINGLE CIRCLE AND TWO RUNES. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND INFO.EITHER TO SUPPORT THIS RIFLE OR NOT.HAVE FOUND AND HEARD INFO.TO BOTH SIDES OF THE ARGUMENT. LOOK FORWARD TO SOME MORE COMMENTS AND INFO.

Ron,
Commercial proofs (C/N or E/N) were applied to rifles in place of military test fire proofs not in addition to. The only exception would be a period rework which would have required re-proofing as a result of a substantial component replacement. Substantial being a bolt, bbl or receiver. Based on the pictures and descrition, the subject rifle does not conform to either.
I would also be curious to hear the details of any argument/information you have received which supports the subject rifle as a legitimate SS marked assembly and/or a legitimate period assembled zf41.
