is anyone about to tell me what part this might be out of a k98?

Sir: It's a Mauser machined "H" band.....Sits behind the bayonet lug moving away from the muzzle.....Later in the war, these were solid (minus the H configuration) and than sheet-metal stamped....Bodes

Hey, what numbers are on the part? Check and see if it has a little eagle with a number underneath it.
