    Question about replica importation

I have a question regarding the importation of replica firearms, using original parts on dummy receivers. It is my understanding that dewat firearms cannot be legally brought into the US, but what about a full-sized replica, using original parts (I believe them to be) and a dummy receiver and barrel? I live in Japan, and last weekend while I was in Tokyo, saw some decent-looking Thompson SMG replicas for sale. One would look good on a WWII USMC mannequin I've got.
If I buy one, can I take it back to the US with me?

I believe replica guns are banned in NY, MA and CA to name a few states

It would be going to Oregon.

On a related note, I bought a blank-firing replica MP40 a few years ago in Japan, and in February was able to take it into the US. Customs agents checked it out, and gave me "the thumbs up!"
