Ive seen one photo myself that had 4 FJ in it all beefed up with allied weapons from what I could make of it they were: -Lee Enfield, M1 Garand, Bren, and another guy in the background with what looked to be a Nagant rifle not to mention all of them had Mills Grenades HAHA talk about supply problems.
... Jeez these guys sure got around

        .50 CAL

Nice shot of this monster in German service (360 degree traverse in the firing pit too).

          Off topic...but

          And the last,
slightly off the original topic, but a rare shot nonetheless.
A French MAS36 in use by some luckless soldat.

Hope you enjoyed them, if i find any more i'll post them.
          All the best,

          Patrick.

            this is an outstanding thread!
for those of you who are familliar with my website, you know I have a "virtual museum" of photos of axis troops using captured Allied weaponry, esp. semi-automatics. I have two pages which are of American and Soviet Semi-auto rifles and 5 more of Axis troops with German autoloaders.

I'm still hoping someone will post some photos of Germans with Garands, or if you have trouble posting, email them to me and I will post them.
            keep up the good work!
again, an excellent topic, and superior photos!
            Brian

                M1911A1's

I'm sure that many of you have GERMAN PARATROOPERS, by Chris McNab, MBI Publishing, 2000. Look at the top picture on page 137, the FJ pushing a wheelbarrow full of weapons. It appears to me that the guy in the center of the picture has a G.I. 1911 pistol in its holster, worn on his left hip.

                What do y'all think?

                Fergus.

                  captured M1

O.K. Back to your library. Check After The Battle's BATTLE OF THE BULGE-THEN AND NOW by Jean Paul Pallud, published in 1984.
Page 230, bottom picture. The German soldier has an M1 rifle sling across his back.

Usually, the problem with using captured weapons is not the ammo supply, but making your own people think that the enemy has infiltrated your lines. The 101st Airborne in Holland used captured MP40's, only after they cut a couple of inches off the recoil spring in an attempt to alter the cyclic rate and not alarm friendly forces unduly.

                  Fergus.

                    Hi folks,

Here is one of the pictures that I have in a book that I should have posted before. It was taken from the book "Operation Barbarossa" (Schiffer Books) by Paul Carrel. It is the only color picture of a German soldier carrying a SVT-40 rifle that I know.

                    http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/SVT40.jpg

                    Hope you enjoy it.

                    Regards,

                    Douglas.

                        M1 Carbine.

                        Hello again,
i can't find a single photo of a Garand being wielded yet, but i did think this shot was a good one (think he's a Field-division man).

I also found another superb shot of a Cossack infantryman armed with a French Chatellerault M31 (MG 311 (f) ).If there's any interest i'll post that too.

                        Hope you enjoy the picture,

                        Patrick.

In fact I was thinking about you and your great website when I posted it. If you want, I can provide a better scan of this picture and send to you to put in your gallery.

                          Just let me know!

                            Oops...

                            Fergus,

I think that you are refering to a picture that I posted in another reply (see a tread called "Fallschirmjager Sidearms"). There is a controversy about what gun that would be. I bet that it is a Radom VIS35, but my friend Matt says that it is a Hi-Power. A Colt 1911A1 was also mentioned...

                            Who knows???

                            Regards,

                            Douglas.

Great finds guys! Man that pic of the Germans using the bog old .50 cal looks awesome!

I have seen photos of German using (examining) a 1911a1, however, we still haven't seen any with a Garand, or a Thompson, or BAR?

Fergus, That pic was posted on another thread, "guns of the Paratroopers". I believe it to be a Browning Hi-Power, just look at the magazine. It comes to a slight point like the Hi-power has. Also the holster appears to be a break-a-way type (which was used with the Hi-power), and also the holster appears to have a single belt loop (which is correct for the Hi Power).

                                Matt
