    Luger gun

I need your opinion on this luger gun, if it's an original and what would be a fair price to buy it.

The gun looks to have been heavily pitted and then had a heavy coat of some type of finish applied over the cleaned parts. I would class it as a shooter, at best, and I personally wouldn't buy it for that because it is in such poor condition and very unattractive.

    Just my opinion.

    Regards, Leon

      Deactivated??

Is this luger deactivated?? The toggle links in the photo look like they have been welded/fuzed together. Maybe British proof house marks?? "Not English Make" .

It appears that the union between the breech block and forward toggle is welded. Is this some sort of British deactivated pistol? If so, given the defects noted by Leon, the pistol has little value other than as a prop. Parts value in the US might be $300 but no more and quite possibly a lot less.

          Hi Ronnie & GWA,

Good eyes. I missed the toggle link problem. It does appear to have been welded and then ground smooth.

          Regards, Leon

            Hi Ingsoc,
            Wow....This is terrible........
I am not sure if this is an original Luger or not......
The chamber date, DWM, and serial number marks look OK, but the rest is bad, really bad.
It's not a blank firer is it?
If it is a Luger it has been very badly refinished ( ), i have never seen those two round stamps before, possibly import marks of some sort, and 'British Made' stamped in front of the side plate - very strange.

            Leave it alone.

            Steve.

              "Proof Marks"??

              All,
The strange marks on the receiver and the right side frame panel are "SIMILIAR" to mark # 63 of Costanzo's , pp 251. That appears to be a British proof. Stevezz, you probably know all about that. And it would be consistant with the "Not English Made" mark. Too, in the first photo, there is a hint of a line of markings on the left side of the bbl. I'd just bet they are the British proof house marks.
All that said, looks like the poor ole' thing, if nothing else, has an interesting history. Probably WWI British capture, then --- well, pure speculation-- but interesting to think about. That's the fun of some of these puzzles.

Thanks guys for chiming in, and thanks for the post Mr. Ingsoc!!

Very good point, the toggle was welded - and in a very bad way: note that the toggle is not even completely "closed". Sorry to say that, but it is one of the worst Lugers I ever seen... very sad view
