98 K Mauser just given to me.

I just got a 98 k rifle and it was free so that's why I had not researched it prior. I know many were Russian Capture and I am not sure about this one. It has two Nazi Proof Marks intact. Made in 1938 and is in good condition. The Bolt was numbered to match the receiver with an engraving tool as you would mark your personal property with. The Sight is not hooded. What does this say? Russian Capture? Or does the fact the nazi proof marks are still intact say something else? There is no electro stencil on the floor plate. If Russian Capture what is it's worth? Less then the 450.00 the person paid for it who gave it to me I assume?

Sorry no photos I just got it but fired it Sunday and I find the kick a bit un comfortable. The M1 Gurand seems to have less kick then the K98 I have.

The engraved number is definitely a postwar sign. You can find Russian capture K98's with their Waffenamt markings still intact, though many had them peened. Pics would say a lot more but I think $450 was about $200 more than they are going for, if indeed this is a Russian capture.
