    German Flare Gun

    Hi All,

    I have a nice German Flare Pistol and I am thinking about selling it.

    Who made ayf?

    Can they legally be shipped?

    What are they worth?

      Hello, Ayf is the code for Erma-Erfurt, and the 43 means the flaregun was manufactured in 1943. It is a common date and maker, and the flaregun is worth between $100 and $175 in the condition pictured.

        Hi,

        That’s all? I thought they were worth $300 so I paid $250 for it. <!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" oreferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"/> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"/> </v:formulas> <vath o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o:connecttype="rect"/> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"/> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="" style='width:24pt; height:24pt'/><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

          Bill,

          I have never seen one of these for under $200-$250. That's not to say that the other price range suggested is not accurate, but merely that the asking prices I have encountered were slightly higher.

          I would feel comfortable with your flare gun @ $250

            to me, depends on the source, i have a nice Ayf and i paid 130 for it from an internet dealer. On the other hand i see other dealers asking 2-250 cos its waffenamted. i see you have a website where you sell, are you a dealer, but you have no idea of its worth ?

            I Would pay around 130-150 tops for that example..

              Looks like the prices I've seen were a bit on the high side. I've been contemplating the purchase of one of these flare guns, so I appreciate RKI's having chimed in with more accurate price data.

                Hello, Like I said before, the ayf 43 is a common date, and the value I gave was for a flaregun in the condition pictured; as Brannow wanted a value for HIS flare pistol. You should be able to find the same code and date in near Mint condition for the $250 you were willing to spend.

                My opinion is to get one in better condition, and spend the extra money, but do not overpay for one in lesser condition. Good Collecting, signalman

                  Hi All,

                  Thanks for the input. I am a dealer but I don’t generally deal with this type of item (guns or related). I will just try to sell it for what I paid for it.

                  Thanks again it was a learning experience,
