    Some Advice On A Trade

Gents, I have just discovered that my neighbor who is in his 80's has a large cache of weapons. He posseses 2 K-98's. I say to him that I would be interested in one of them. He says that he never sells anything but he likes to trade. He is interested in my Charles Daly 20 ga. O/U that I bought brand new about 20 years ago. My questions would be what things in particular should I look for in choosing which one to trade for and would this be a deal that both of us could be comfortable with? No sling or bayo. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking for a steal but a fair deal so we can still wave and shake hands at Church on those infrequent Sundays. Thank You. Robert

Like any other goods K-98's vary in price according to date of manufacturer, condition, etc. The same would go for your shotgun. What I would suggest would be go to a gun auction website like Gun Broker (www.gunbroker.com) to see if they are offering weapons like the ones involved in your situation and the prices they are currently commanding. It will serve as a sort of yardstick to check values.

My suggestion is to go back over to his house with a nice digital camera and start taking lots of pics, to include: all serial numbers, markings, receiver, bolt, safety, buttplate, barrel (the entire length), sights, barrel bands, underside of trigger housing and screws, and breech (open bolt). Take all pics in sunlight as steady as possible so they are nice and sharp. Also look on the right side of the stock, between the pistol grip and takedown disc for any L, H, or M markings. K98's can be a minefield; you may end up with a Russian capture or a very nice rig. Good luck.

Thank You gene and LM. I see I have a lot of checking to do. The first thing I want to do is see how it feels. He will let me shoot it too. First clean my shotgun then off to his house. Have a nice weekend. Robert
