    Original mismatched pistols

    Hello,

Has anyone ever seen an original mismatched pistol or factory error numbering?

I recently saw a radom that had the last three numbers of the serial number as 246. Both the frame and the slide have the full serial number on them and they match. The barrell has on the bottom under the chamer the number 146. The gun has all of the same wear on it and it is an S block with all of the parts. It looks pretty late by the machining but not the steyr type of late.

Could this have been a factory mistake or a field repair mistake. If it was a mismatched barrel that would be one big coincidense to be that close. As well I have heard that some late was K98s were mismatched along the same lines.

    Thanks for any help,
    Cam

I have seen this type of misnumbering on original guns. Sometimes you will find one part numbered for instance 1234 and another part will have 1243. best wishes,

        !

I have a 98k which was a Mauser rebuild, they reversed the last two digits of the front and rear barrel bands. Even the Germans made mistakes

I know that there are whole letter blocks of P.38's that are mismatched from late in the war.

I think the same holds true for PP's & PPK's.

Late AC 45 P38's are probably the more know factory mismatch (C and D range...)

              Hello Guys,

              Thanks for the help.

I had thought I had heard something about factory error weapons before. Now this clears it up totally for me.

              Thanks,
              Cam
