Looking for a photo of a German soldier with a HiPower pistol

Quite a while back, I saw a photo of a German soldier with
a HiPower in his hand. I think he was standing along a road.
I just glanced at it and went on to the next thread in the forum I was
reading.
BUT for the life of me, I cant remember where it was.
Can someone tell me where to find this photo.

There's one in the book "Backbone of The Wehrmacht" (p.207) of a group of Waffen SS soldiers in Russia.....One guy is shooting a captured Tokarev while another in the background has a HiPower at the ready by his side.....Bodes

There's that famous Battle of the Bulge photo of the SS MG gunner holding a Hi-power in his hand. I believe that is the one you are thinking of?

HOwever, my favorite photo is a Normandy photo of an SS trooper in a hedgerow crouched down with an SS camo parka on, and he has a hi-power in his right hand, and you can clearly see the hammer is cocked!

Also, I believe there was a good photo of a Luftwaffe paratrooper with a Hi-power also taken in Normandy.

Here is the picture you mentioned! One of the best pics to gun lovers! Note the the soldier in the forefront, with the captured SVT40 semi-auto rifle, also is armed with seems to be a Browning M1922 pistol in a Dutch holster (Matt, help me here! ) and a Mauser C96 in a wooden holster stock (barely visible, hanging in his belt). Tough guy, indeed!

Hey Joe,

I have heard the same thing except I heard that it was SS and Police. I think that this is true, but not something that was a rule.

When in 1940/41 the BHP factory was being re-started and shipments of pistols were starting to arrive, they were given to the units that were being created. At this time, alot of the SS divisions were starting to stand up. With the Heer already having contract in place, these new units had to find new sources of weapons so the BHP was a good choice.

Yes, you are corect. That is a very famous photo taken of some Waffen SS troops using a variety of captured weapons there. You can clearly see the SVT40, a Browing 1922 in a Dutch holster. (called that P641h), Also, yes, there is a Mauser broomhadle, and man in the back has a Browning Hi-power. Also, notice the rifles. Those aren't K98s! They have straight bolt, and no slot in the stock for the sling. Possibly VZ24? Does anyone know for sure?

Also, that other photo up top with the Browning hi-power is awesome! I've never seen that one before. Where did you get it?

The rifles are modified Gew-98s. A common modification that was carried out in the mid 1930's was the replacement of the old Lange rear sight with the newer style tangent rear sight. Sometimes these also had a wider rear band added and one of these in the photo appears to have had this wide rear band installed.

I have a large number of photos that show SS troops from 1935 (or so) until very late in the war using these modified Gew 98s.

Unfortunately, I can´t remember where I found it in the Internet but probably it was in an E-bay auction. Just let me clarify that I just keep them as a personal reference file before they disappear.

On the other hand, I would like to see that picture of the Waffen SS soldier crouched behind the hedgerow during the Normandy Battles. I think that I only saw it as a footage scene...
