    Late War Sauer 38H Rig!

Just got this baby in from my good friend Charlie!
It is a very nice late war Sauer 38H rig.
What really makes this rig awesome is the holster! This baby is mint! It is a 1944 soft break-a-way type.

Back side of holster is maker marked and dated "fkx 4".
This is for the maker of "Gustav Sudbrack, Lederwaren u. Gamaschenfabrik." and the date 1944.

Gun is all matching with serial number in the 435xxx range. Gun has typical late war rough finish. Bore is mint. Grips are excellent!

Close up shows that the makers name is no longer on the slide. Only the caliber. Also you can clearly see the rough finish, and the "eagle 37" proof mark on the trigger guard.

            Perhaps you can help Matt

            Matt,
I have a Sauer pistol my Dad gave me that is somewhat different from what you picture. It is larger as I can tell from viewing the picture of the holster. He had one of the same as you show but I think he gave that to one of my brother-in-laws.

            The other differences are:
            1. Grips on both sides say Sauer., at the top and Cal.7.65 at the bottom. Serial number 162996.

            2. Left side of barrel stamped PATENT., and the right CAL.7.65.

            3. Stamped on top of the barrel between the front and rear sights is J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL and an oval shaped mark I cannot make out which is much more deeply idented.

            3. Stamped on the trigger guard is an N and some mark which looks like it might be a crown.

            4. The safety is substantially different. It is a strip of blue metal with a black "button" and is located beneath the barrel between the left side handgrip and trigger.

            5. The holster has no stamp imbedded in the leather, but inside in ink is stamped PVK.

The gun is fully functional. What can you, or any of the other more knowledgeable folks here tell me about this weapon, including an estimated current value?

Thank you in advance for your kind and prompt assistance!

            Dennis

              Matt,
Nice rig as always. A very late war Sauer! I thought of you lately, a friend of mine picked up a mint P-38 BYF -44 with mint softshell holster at the Fon- du- lac show for $500.00. You must have missed it, were you there?

Does your pistol look something like this? (see pic below?)

Well, this pistol is the Sauer model 1913. Actually the 1913 is smaller than the Sauer 38. The grips can vary on these with the "S&S" logo as mine has, or the "Sauer 7.65" as yours has. It should be "Crown N" proof marked.
The marking on the top of the slide that you can't make out is a figure of a man holding a large club. This is the Sauer logo, along with thier traditional "S&S" markings on the grips of the Sauer 38 shown above.

Not sure about the holster? can you post pics of it?
I'll picture the holster for mine below as well, it is a WWII police marked holster.

Value of these is really low for some reason. I picked up this entire rig (with holster and spare mag), for under $300!

                Hope this helps you out!

                Matt

                Jeff,
No I wasn't at the FDL show this year. Sounds like your friend got a good deal though! $500 for a minty byf44 and holster is very good! That just proves what I've been telling people all along. You can still find good stuff at very reasonable prices, you just have to look and have patience!

Here are more pics of the Sauer 1913, and also the holster. The holster is a lovely police holster that is also maker marked, "Otto Sindel Berlin, 1941".
                  A great looking rig!

                    That looks like it!

                    Matt,

Thanks again for your help. That looks like it. I have the holster gun and two clips. I tried to post a picture of the holster and the stamped mark inside but the system says I can't do attachments. I don't know why. I was also unable to change my profile to add private emails.

I will attach the pictures to an email to the administrators and hopefully they will forward it to you.

                    Thanks again,
                    Dennis
