    Waffenamt question

Hi all. Was it common for there to be different WaA numbers on rifles when they left the factory? I know some factories manufactured complete guns, but could they have used other waffenamt number parts sometimes? Also, I guess it could be common in the field for them to replace with other parts.... Just curious. I have 135 and 214 on mine, and I know it should have mainly 135 do to it being a Byf. Any help....

    Thanks,
    Mike

Waffenamt stamps were issued to the inspector, and stayed with him when/if he worked in a different plant. Parts were made by various manuafacturers who had inspectors who used their own numbered stamp on the parts they were responsible for. Different parts from different plants would be stamped differently and assembled on one gun in some instances, particularly later in the war. Armorer replacement parts wouldn't have the serial number, but would still have the stamp indicating the inspector. Depending on the gun, sometimes it's OK and correct to have different stamps on the same gun, sometimes it's not. Backbone of the Wehrmacht is a good source of what codes should be on particular guns.
