Hi Jamie, I have never seen one for sale before either. The only example I have ever seen was in the Imperial War Museum in London.
    Cheers, Ade.

These VG rifles do come up for sale from time to time. Usually they are found at estate sales or auctions. A friend of mine got one from an estate about 2 years ago. The estate was selling 50 guns all at once. IT was a silent auction, high bidder takes all. My friend got them all! Afterwards several of the other bidders asked what his winning bid was since they all thought they placed a rather high bid on them. He asked them what they bid on the VG rifle. Both of them stated $50. He told them he put down $3,000 just on that rifle alone! He outbid them just on that one piece! He later sold the VG for $7,000.

These are very rare rifles, and are neat to look at, however, my personal opinion is that they aren't worth the amount that people are selling them for. I mean you could get an ERMA EMP for that price! or a K98 sniper! or a crap load of P38s!

The VG series firearms were never used by the traditional military forces of Hitler's Germany. They have little appeal to a strictly military arms collector except as curiosity pieces. The only example a Mauser collector would want to legitimately complete his collection is the late war VG-98 variant, even here the prices are greatly inflated for a weapon that is extemely crude and unsafe to fire under any circumstance.

          David,

You are absoluptly possitively 100% correct! I couldn't agree more!
I have no interest in these VG weapons. However, I do appreciate thier historical significance, and that would be the only reason to have one in my collection. However, since the prices of these VGs are astronomical, I don't see that happening.

            VG-15 in use

            Hi,

Concerning the use of the VG-15 by the Wehrmacht, I should disagree with you guys.

In fact I have a VHS of the last Deutsch Wochenchau made during february through march, 1945. One of theses filmreels shows clearly a bunch of Volksturm soldiers watching a Goliath working, all displaying their VG-15s.

So, I would say that this kind of weapon was issued to troops at least for field tests purposes, reaching some frontline units during the last weeks of the war. Although very rough, their concept was interesting, since it used a lot of parts of the StG-44.

Just my two cents, as you say.

            Regards,

            Douglas.

VG SERIES WEAPONS WERE PART OF THE SO CALLED "PRIMITIVE WEAPONS"program they were aquired out side of normal military contract channels for use by the Volkssturm. They were paid for by Party funds, contracted by local Party officials, they may have ended up in regular soldiers hands by default but not by design. You will not find any waffenamts on any real ones and sometimes even firing proofs are absent.I stand by my earlier comments ...VG series weapons were not for use by the established branches of the Wehrmacht ,they were intended to be issued to the old men and boys conscripted into the Volkssturm.
