    My new 1937 BSW K98k

I just got this two days ago from a friend who was selling off some items. He had three and I picked this one because it was an early piece. He told me he had gotten it from a vet a few years back but did not have his name, unit etc. I was very pleased to find that it was one of the more desirable makers. It is a BSW 98k made in 1937 and is serial number 4008a. It appears to have been through an arsenal recondition during WW2 as there are several parts that are mismatched (rear sight, bolt assembly, magazine floorplate, stock bolt is imperial proofed as is the bayonet lug). In addition the stock has been refinished and not very well because there are no visible marks on the stock. Now for the good part, the pictures. I am not real familiar with 98k's, so if anyone can give me an approximate value, I would appreciate it.

Bolt assembly markings. Oddly, the safety lever is matched but the rest is matched to each other but not the gun.

Serials. Both reciever screws are matching, the guard screws are present but not marked. In the lower picture notice a eagle with swastika proof on the barrel and a weimar type eagle on the receiver.

More serials. Notice the WaA 214 marking on the buttplate and a matching number.

Hello It could be a late war rework? hard to say. The barell is probably 1940 bnz production, WaA623, the ghn bolt is typical for late 43/45 sapre production and added on byf rifles. best regards,Andy
