Grip information Walther PP/PPK

PP&PPK Grip Variations

Hi Robert:
How are you doing? Its been awhile since we've talked.As you know I collect the pre-war Walthers only,but as I do not know of any web sites I will give you the info I've aquired over the last 30 years.As you know the first PP variation was introduced in 1929.The grips had a X molded inside.This was eliminated around the last of 1931 when they molded a metal insert into them.This lasted until 1938 and was replaced with the third variation grip, which was hollow inside.This was the last of the construction process.There were really two colors,black was the common color but the SA had shooting competitions and the grips were sorta red color.These grips were taken off the used up pp and reinstalled on the next PP and so forth.And there were the wood grips on the last ditch PPs.
The PPK grip was at first not reinforced and after awhile Walther started putting a metal insert in them until wars end.It really did not help as you know any PPK shot alot will show damage from stress cracks.I have seen two piece grips,but really can not comment on them being correct.Of course they had the brown marble,black and grey grips also.The two latter ones were used during the war . I think the police models used the grey ones more as the army in late war used the black.
