    Remingto Rand help please

I got this Remingtom Rand in the mail today, was described as in excellent and original shape and configuration, 1943 vintage. Can anyone confirm this is all wartime? Definitely seems in original shape, but I just don't know about the Rands at all. Thanks in advance,
    joe

Currently it looks fine but the flash and the oil do hinder the appraisal. Completely clean it of all oil...I mean really dry and then take it out into the sun light. The finish should be a greenish color, not grey. If it is grey it has been refinished. Also take a look at the barrel after you have dissassembled the pistol. Make sure it is either a Colt or High Standard barrel. There will be a letter by the link C is Colt and HS is High Standard.

                  Cheers

Nice one. Looks just like the one my Dad carried in WWII, 13th Airborne div (glider and para anti tank). Don't notice any differences. His is sn1814xxx. He was sent over late in 1944. The finish that is left is more grey in color but it has been used hard as he also carried it for many years in the US. He is 84. I just serviced it for him again last week. It still shoots everytime. He was anxious to get it back.

                      Nice Lookin' pistol Joe

                      Joe,
Nice looking pistol. The frame s/n is correct for an early Remington Rand. Mfg date in 1943. Likely early. Like Gary says, clean the oil off and see if there is a two tone color at the front of the slide. If it's a two tone, t'will be the original finish.

                      Congrats on nice hardware!!

Thank you Gentlemen very much! After years of handling Lugers pretty much exclusively this "chunk of meat " is pretty impressive! Can't wait to fire her. Thanks again Gentlemen!

P.S....also, can someone confirm for me, this gun cannot be brought back in to the US, correct?

You CAN bring it into the US for personal use, even without getting an importation permit unless you sell it. If you later sell it you have to pay for importation & follow all the regulations that volume dealers have to follow. IIRC you can avoid all of the nasty import stamping and all the other nasty stuff that makes importing collectable firearms impossible as long as it's for your collection.

                          The ATF forms are here.

If you have problems figuring it all out, I have a set of procedures in a book somewhere... I just can't find it right now. Ask, and I'll dig around for it.

Check the bullet feed ramp on the frame, to be original the ramp must be bright milled finish.
The color is perfect for a Type 2 Remington Rand with the Dulite blueing over sandblast finish. The markings and parts look to be original and it's a very desireable pistol in the states. Probably would bring $1500 - $1600 USD in that condition. Once the firing wear starts to show, it will drop in value dramatically. Nice pistol. Here's one of mine just a little earlier called a Type 1.
