Brno K98 Mauser

My Dad has this Mauser he purchased through "Shotgun News" sometime after he returned home from the war. It looks to be in good shape and shoots real well. Could someone who is knowledgible on 98k's look at a few of the pictures I've posted and possibly date the weapon. The sling was an add-on after he got the rifle. I don't see offhand any markings that would lead me to believe it was used by the German army but what do I know? What #'s I do see all look to match.

Normal prewar production , Mod 24 - Vz.24 rifle, accepted to Czechoslovakian Army in 1928, nice matching configuration.best regards,Andy

Thanks Andy,...appreciate the information.

crowback,...I forgot to ask him but I'm sure it wasn't much. Dad saw thousands of these in piles the size of small houses when the German's started surrendering enmasse. So instead of bringing back a pristine one, he waits till he gets home and then mail orders one...go figure. I can't blame him for having one thing on his mind...just getting HOME. He passed up a trip back on the Queen Mary and the parade through NYC and opted for an earlier voyage on a wornout Liberty ship.

To me it appears to be a Vz24 that was reworked by the Germans. It has the take down disc in the the stock, the triggerguard & floorplate are numbered as are the bolt shroud & safety. The bolt also appears to be blued. These are not features normally found on a std Vz2

I have to agree that this is probably a German modified VZ24 rifle in superb condition. I imagine it might...MIGHT.. have a German firing proof on the barrel under the handguard. Many do--- a very valuable rifle in the condition it is in. There is a pretty good website on Czech weapons at http://www.cagedlion.com/

Yes it could be the german rework, but the hollow drilled in pistol grip of buttstock, must be filled, nice piece ofcourse.best regards,Andy

Wow! That's one of the nicer VZ24's I've seen. Definately saw German service too. I'd agree that the wrist swivel is almost always plugged by the Germans, but there is an amazing variation to the modifications that the Germans performed on these rifles. No hard fast rules here. Anyway, very nice rifle.
