    Value of a SKS

    I was out cruiseing the local gun shops yesterday and ran into a supposed Vietnam SKS bring back. It was a Factory 26 gun with a 10 code so I am thinking it was produced in 1966. Rear cover is the only mismathched part. Lot of wear to rifle and numerous dings to metal and wood from what looks to be grenade fragments. The damage to the stock has been repaired and the stock refinished. The shop was asking $375.00, I checked the internet but could only find one other rifle. Do you all think this is a fair price. I thought it was a little high but have not looked at these in awhile.

    Sir unfortunately the vietnam bringback pieces are a hard sell. they are of course rare than the imported ones but since the imported ones are available no one at this time has a great interest in them? I believe in time it will change. Now if you pay that for the rifle, my guess it will take at least 24 months to break even on. I went thru this two years ago when i had a hell of a time getting rid of a real vet piece..no interest for a 300 dollar gun when you can buy them all day at 175.00

          I will make one more observation. If the SKS involved has the capture paperwork and other supporting documentation then the 375 is only a little high based on condition. If it was a matching rifle with full docs 375 would be right in the ballpark.

          Collectors will allways be willing to pay more for a certifiably captured weapon than an import. Just look at how the bring back market for K98ks differs from the import market. Bring backs bring the same amount of money they did before(if not more) even though several hundred thousand 98s have been imported.

            In support of the previous statement there was a Yugo SKS a while back on a webpage that had a Bosnia & Herzanagova emblem carved in its side on a web site from the Yugo dissolution wars.

            I just went looking for it and it seems to have been sold. I can't say for sure but I remember that it was listed at about 2x the price of a normal crappy Yugo SKS and it didn't have any documentation.

                Seems like youre describing a Chinese SKS model, they average around 250 on price so I would pass on that one. I would recommend getting a unissued/excellent quality Yugo for $149.99 online (aim surplus, and many others sell them for that price)
