I recently purchased an MP44 semiauto,it's all matching except the barrel(see the photo).I think that the barrel is new because is in really good shape but an friend of me says that maybe is matching to the gun because it wears an letter but in big letter not in minor letter as usual in wwII german firearms,so that's my question is an replaced barrel or not. Please llok at the photos.thanks in advance for your help.

When looking at a MP44/Stg44 you will most of the times find mismatching numbers. One should notice than in this late stage of the war not everything in the war industry went perfectly. For the manufacturing of the parts orders were often placed on many different small companies and the later assembly and testing was done at the factory, in this case byf, Mauser Werke. Some orders were delayed and factories were bombed. To get a gun with all matching numbers was not the highest priority, but to get as many guns as possible to the front was.
On my MP 44, fxo - Haenel in Suhl, there are mismatching numbers on all parts. There are even an attempt to cross over some numbers on the metal fitting on the laminated wooden butt. On my friends Stg's you find this treat as well in more or less extent. Its totally normal and nothing to worry about!
Congratualtions to a nice gun! I think its all original!

Serial numbered parts!
Of course is important that the parts are matching or not,Ok that the diferent parts where produced is several different places but once arrive to the final fabrik like haenel all where reserialed with the same number, that's why i ask you if any has an Mp44 all matching but with an diferent serial number on the barrel. And this serial number wears an Capital letter, normaly were written in minor letter. If I'm lucky only they have changed the barrel but maybe is the original barrel to the Mp44,so the doubt is on the Capital letter of the first photo. Thanks

Not to mention, weapons often get cleaned in the field 'en masse'.....And the care to make sure the serial #'d parts are placed back together again when reassembling just doesn't happen......Weapon systems were designed with interchangeability in mind.....I also agree with Ben.....Serial #'d matched guns can be somewhat overemphasized sometimes when collecting....As long as the whole package is original, period made, and looks good as a whole, and the price reflects what it is.....I have no problems with it.....Bodes

You do not just change an mp44 barrel in a few minutes. often it takes heat to get one out and the cross pin will be damaged. Please show us a picture of the cross pin. Also, Steyr was the only company to use capital letters as suffixes in their mp44 production.
best wishes,

Mp44
Yes, Jeff is right. Please show a close up of the pin. The reason people like all matching numbers is just because you know the weapon was not messed with, I know it's anal but, just knowing a matching weapon left the factory that way and has stayed together ever since just adds to the "feeling". Good thread guys. Brian
