    Red tip on 7.92?

    Has anyone seen a 7.92 round with a red tip? i got 10 rounds on a stripper at the weekend as tracer but thinking about it they were black went they?
    they are laqured steel cases marked st+ 19 44 auy and a blue primer.
    its not explosive or hollow are they as they are illigal to sell here??

        Homemade?

        I can't find the configuration red tip, blue primer/annulus in any of my books. To me it sounds like a S.m.E with a painted tip...

        Maybe one of you guys with a larger library than me can give a better answer

          I agree they are S.m.E. rounds and someone painted the tips red. German tracer rounds did not use red tips. Blue primer pocket is for S.m.E. rounds. Green is for s.S. rounds and red is for S.m.K., in either just armor piercing or with tracer too. Tracer rounds would have a black tip with red primer pocket. Black primer pockets would be for P.m.K. or B-patrone.

            thanks guys i thaught they looked odd with the red tip and blue primer the paint is old do you think i should leave it on or repaint them black as i have them every 5th round on the 100 round belt in my 42
