Fellas,

I was hoping for some opinions as the relate to a Dual code k98 that I have in my collection. The reciever is a bcd/ar 42. The Bolt, receiver, barrel, trigger guard, and floorplate are all matching (2862e). The stock, handguard, buttplate and both barrel bands all match as well but are a different number (8983n).

Could this be a period aresenal refurbished rifle where good metal was matched with good wood (e.g. a rifle with badly damage stock was married up with good wood)?

The reason that I believe this could be the case is the the stock seems to have all kinds of "extra" waffenampts on it.

Sir: It's my belief that the extra stock proofs are merely an indication of an earlier made stock replaced on this rifle.....I do not believe however it would be an arsenal refurbish as I believe they would have crossed out old numbers and renumbered them to match the rest of the rifle.....It's my belief that your rifle is the "marriage" of two rifles more than likely done after the war......Bodes

Disappointing...but how many bcd/ar's are floating around to begin with (I'm trying to console myself )....

Simply it is a rifle that got put in a stock not belonging to it postwar. I have seen two nearly identical dual codes done like this, one even came from a collector out of NJ - went to a buddy , then another buddy and I think eventually made it's way back to NJ in another swap.
It's a scarce code/combination so don't feel too bad - especially since nobody tried to hump it up.

I have a few dual code 98'ks and some factory re-works. They are all matching except for one were the front and rear bands have the last 2 digits reversed.

I agree with the comments already made... still a rare code combination thats desired!
