    Garand rear sight trouble.

    Hello friends,

I disarmed the rear sight and I dont know as should be configured. When the aperture is down which number (elevation screw) of the mark of receiver has to be?

    Cheers,

Let me take a stab at this. What you are looking for is you battle sight. That's the delta or triangle or BS on your elevation knob. That's what you sight your rifle to. Then you "set it and forget it" kind of.

Some people don;t use the numbers. You bottom the sight out and count up the clicks to that particular yardage. You can see them do this in Band of Brothers when they take the machine gun at the crossing. Many soldiers kept their sights bottomed out to prevent it from snagging on something. Then, in a front line situation, it was back to battle sights (usually three hundred yards I think).

If you want numbers to match yardage, you have some work at the range to do.
