    My first P-38

I just picked up my first P-38. It is a Walther AC41 from the d block with 2 mags (one of them matching with the serial number stamped across the toe). Bluing is about 90% in tact....

I paid $1100, good deal or no? A few pictures are attached...

      Congrats

      Dear Sir,

I cannot comment on the price you paid because firearm prices vary across the world so much. However what I can say is that from the pictures you show the gun appears very nice. I hope you do take the time to shoot it. I have two P38's, one 1944 Cyq coded gun and another from 1976. A Bundewehr gun that was never issued and is brand new. I shoot that one alot and I love it, they are really really strong guns with an action far superior to its predecessor, the P08.

If you are going to shoot yours I recommend Sellier & Bellot 124Gr ammo. Its not too powerful and shoots really well.

The finish on earlier guns like yours is better than the war latter guns and this is reflected in the price. The matching magazine is a great touch and I personally have never seen a matching magazine.

I think you have done well and welcome to ownership of one of the Best handguns ever made.

      Regards Craig.

        Hi,

With 90% original finish and correct grips, I would say you made a good buy. I believe it might be worth more.

        Regards, Leon

Thank you for the replies. The nice blued finish of the early P-38s is beautiful and in time I hope to have a representative piece for each year and manufacturer. I figured that an AC41 with a matching mag was a good place to start.

What are the correct grips for this year and model? Another question that I had is are the grips serial numbered on P-38s like they are on Lugers?

              Stahlhelm1976,

I too have an ac41. Do a search for one of my earlier posts that has some good grip info and another link for you to check out. I tried to paste it for you and couldn't get it to work. Click on search in the upper right corner of the screen and type in" P38 grips". Lots of good info here.
