Who can help me with this pistol? Belongs to a friend and I'm not real up on these. It is WAmptd, but no year. Is it a PP or PPK? Appears to be 7.62mm. What year was it made and what is the value?

Hi HArry,
It is a Walther PP, which was released in 1929. Although some examples chambered to .380ACP and .22LR were made, most of the guns that went to the Wehrmacht (as this one) were chambered to fire .32ACP (a.k.a. 7,65mm Browning). The Waffenamt stamped in yours means that this gun was inspected by a military inspector and issued to German Armed Forces.
Walther PPs were not dated, as happened with the P38s. I do not have the proper books about this gun, but I would guess that the serial number put its production date as something like 1941-42.
I should say that this example looks pretty nice and very collectable, so please tell your friend to not mess with it!
All the best and Happy New Year,
Douglas.

Douglas is correct. I can't make out the serial number, nor the slide legand though.
But just by looking at it, I can see that it doesn't have the 90 degree safety, has high polish finish, and has the later The "eagle/WaA359", so 1942 would probably be a correct date for this one. (as Douglas said, these were not dated)
Nice looking PP!

Walther PP
Hello Harry:
I collect both the PPs and PPK pistols and your friends pistol was made either at the end of 1942 or early 1943.The bad news is that it has been reblued and that certainly takes it from collector grade to shooters grade in pricing. What makes it even worse the slide ledgend has been completely buffed off the left side.Walther did not remove this legend until 1944 and added an AC under the serial number on the right side to eliminate Walther's involment in the last years of the war. They also destroyed all production records of all manufactured weapons they had ever produced.
You were askig about price. It does have one advantage and that being the army's acceptance code being stamped on it.If the weapon was never fooled with 7-9 hundred would have been the price. Now I am sorry to say as a shooter grade would be 3-350.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.I just hope your friend did not sink any large dollars in it?
Kind Regards
Danny
