    Latest Find! MG34!

Just picked up this bad boy today (along with my P38, see other thread).

I know it is a dummy gun, but hey, I figured, I could probably never afford the real thing with the prices these days, so I though I'd get the next best thing!

    Enjoy!

This is a very nice MG34 parts kit. Notice that it has the original Nazi bi-pod, and not one of those Czech ones! This parts kit was one of the first to arrive here in the USA after the fall of the "Iron curtain".

Gun is in very good condition. Markings on it are excellent! Maker marked, and dated, "dot 1943".

Awesome! I just saw a video on-line yesterday of a guy ripping up a pond with an MG42....... I would love to fire an MG34 or MG42.....or even to have a replica/non-firing version.....enjoy yours! Very nice!

Thanks for the comments guys! I do like it a lot.

                Ronnie,
The bipod came with the rest of the gun. It was one of the very first parts kits that came here into the US. The reciever was cut, and the guy who put this kit together, had the reciever welded back together, and filed clean, but the bolt is welded into the reciever, so I can remove the bolt, nor the barrel.

Now, I just need to find a sling for it, and I also would like to get a drum for it, and AAA sight as well.

                Matt

                      Great looking MG Matt,
Until I had one for myself I didnt realize just how heavy they really are.

Give you a new perspective when you see periord photos of some skinny kid running in battle with an MG and 200+ rounds on his back.

                        Eric,

You are correct! I believe the dry weight of the MG34 is almost 28lbs! So yes, it is a bit of beast to wield around.

Also, I never really appreciated the fine quality of the MG34 until you really see one up close. This thing is really finely made. Lot's of close tolerances, and some really fine machining. Mine is a 1943 model, and the fit and finish are both very good for a mid-war piece. And to think these were made right up until the end of the war too!
If anyone says that German quality standards fell during the war, just show them an MG34.

Also the MG34 is full of innovations, or little gagets on it. Like the folding bi-pod that stows when not in use. Also the bi-pod is adjustable for hieght. Both the front and rear sights fold down. The rear sight also has a AA sight into it, that folds out. The spider sight is easily mounted onto the gun for AAA work. It can carry a belt of ammo, or have a drum attached to it for mobility. Also, the quick changing barrel mechanism, and selective fire trigger are both engineering marvels!
The MG34 could easily be considered to be the father of all squad light maching guns.

                        Matt

Just got my sling in for my MG34 from our good friend here on the forum Tommy Vervest, (us1945) from Holland.
It looks great! What a great looking sling, and a great price. Thanks Tommy.
