The rifle has some issues with it which are not consistent with either WWI or WWII production. To name a few:

1. The rifle bolt and receiver are blue. This would likely indicate refinishing post WWI.
2. There is no recess for the turndown bolt. This is inconsistent with legitimate WWI snipers and WWI/II sniper reworks.
3. The rear site is still of the lange type. This is consistent with the WWI sniping variation but inconsistent with later use by the WSS who utilized reworked rifles with updated K/G date or later rear site assemblies.
4. Unless the scope has a serial number stamped or engraved on it - it is a commercial scope not employed for military use in WWI or WW2.

Bottom line is I am not exactly sure what you have. Perhaps more feedback from you will clarify things.

those things you named are one of the smae things i found strange,i think also the stock is from tjecho-slowakije.

the turndownbolt is also strange.ive tried to fit anothr bolt in the rifle and it wont fit correctly.it wil gethalf in but not good because of the mounting of the scope.i will make a picture where you can see the difference.

then the scope problem,ive got more rifles in my collection with those kind of scopes on a k98rifle.one of those came from the sniper himslef,he told me that he purchaised it by himself,because they were better than the zf41 at that time.maybe this is a converted g98sniper with a self purchaised scope??

a very strange rifle...but thats also the fun,sorting out the facts of something and hear the opinion from other people

I have to concur with scott completely on his evalutation of the rifle. Also the scope bases on the receiver are of a very commercial type usually found on drillings. Too much bad karma on this to be legitimate.
The picture showing the officer from the 11th Bavarian reserve in the great war is neat. I had been in contact with a german collector some years ago whom had that picture given to him with the scope and can from that very rifle.The man brought the rifle home with him at the end of the great war and used it against the bolsheviks .He simply put it up.When the US Army came through the particular german town the rifle was taken and destroyed by US forces - but not the scope.Neat story if true.Wish I knew what happened tgo that german collector - he and his brother had quite a large collection of german scopes and their cases.

here can you see what i exactly mean about the bolt.you see that in the red area the G98 bolt point is flattend, and if you compare it with the bolt of the k98 sniper rifle you can see in the red area a point..do you need more photos from the rifle??you name it i make it

here the both bolts together, on your left the g98 one and at your right the k98 one see the difference?? so the bolts can't be exchanged from rifle to rifle.this bolt belongs to this g98 sniper rifle...what's your opinion?

My opinion is that the bolt in the former gew98 is a bad smithy alteration. Looks like a fair amount of crude work - and the LACK of a serial number on top bolt flat is a dead giveaway it's not a german military alteration. The bolt likely came out of a gew98 that was sporterized for civilian use between the wars I feel as many such rifles exhibit crude to mediocre craftsmanship when they were turned into rifles for sporting purposes domestic and for export.
All in all it really does not matter as it is not an original military configuration scharfschutzengewehr98. So enjoy it for the mismatch parts shooter it is and shoot the hell out of it on the range.
