    P-38 price question

What is a ballpark price for a ac 41 marked P-38 with 1943 dated holster and one magazine? I know it's not much detail, but thats all I have to go on so far. The seller's asking price is in the $850 to $900 range.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I agree with David. One can pick up a decent looking P-38 for around $500 and holster for probably around $150. I've seen them at militaria shows in my neck of the woods for close to that price. Try looking at http://www.gunbroker.com/ and http://www.auctionarms.com/ . These are pretty good sites

          P38 ac41

          Hi,

I agree with Bill. The first Walthers made - including the ac41 - were still manufactured with high quality of finish. This would certain increase the price. However you must to have in mind other things: how much of the original finish remains, bore, rifling, etc. It can sounds a little bit expensive, but if it is in VG condition this piece will certainly will be be a good investment.

There is a good ac 41 P-38 at www.manions.com. See how this auction is going to have an idea.

          Greetings,

          Douglas.

Thanks for the replys. The P-38 did not have any import stamps, and had a brownish (parkerized?) finish to it. It looked good overall with no rust or reblueing that I could see. The holster was in good shape and had two rank pips attached to the front, and they looked like they had always been there. Overall it had the appearance of a pistol that had seen action, but was not in too bad of shape.

An AC41 P38 shoud not have a parkerized finish!!!

It depends on what type of AC41 you are looking at as for price.

There are 3 different variations to the AC41s. Here they are:

              1. Serial numbers from 1-4550b- high polish finish, AC 41 marked on slide, and also "AC" marked on trigger guard, left side.

              2. Serial numbers form 4550b-4800i- the "AC" stamping on the left side of the trigger guard was omitted. Still have hi-polish finish!

              3. Serial number 4800i-9999j- Hi-polished finish was replaced by a military matte finish.

Prices will vary tremedously between these three types. If you have a type 1 as above, then $850 for a rig is an incredibly good deal! (assuming it is in good condition, ie.-finsh, bore, grips.....)

If you have a type 2 listed above, then $850 is a fair price. Not a steal, but you're not getting ripped off either. (again if it is in good condition.)

If you have a type 3, then $850 is a bit too high. (even if it is in good condition.) I would say around $700-$750. (againg assuming it is good! I haven't seen it, so I'm just guessing here?)

              Matt
