    Deaths head?

    looks like a pretty nice mauser overall, but what about this deaths head he claims on the stock? if its on the stock should there be markings on the rifle? is it worth the price?

    I think that this is a little pricey for a mix and match rifle. I am a little skeptical of the death's head (I can't really make it out myself). The reason that I am skeptical is that the stock is both death's head and Heer marked. The SS got most of their rifles through commercial manufacturers and the stock would have no waffenampts or military acceptance stamps.

      Chris, IMO it’s a very well used German Army 98K rework with what to me looks like: A worn out tube, is not matching, and has an import stamp on it. The seller says that it has an: “extremely faint, extremely hard to see with the naked eye”, SS Death’s Head marking on the stock which is not numbered.

      When I look at his enhanced image I’m not sure what it is. Is it a marking or one of those things that sometimes happens to wood that gets beat up? If somebody bought it could they have a problem trying to sell it in the future? It would not be one that I would want to spend my $825.00 (minimum bid) on - but that’s just my take on the rifle as I see it. FP

        Way, waaaay too high for a import rifle. The deaths head is spurious as well IMO.

          The subject rifle shows none of the typical qualities of a legit SS rework/refurb. It looks like a mismash of parts. No problem with some WaA's in certain places on a legit SS stock assembly though. There are a few good reasons why this can and did occur. Without hands on the subject stock it is difficult to determine authenticity. However, the branch inspection marks on the right side do not bode well for it.
