How were the wood grips on Lugers originally finished?
I was admiring a Luger I bought about a year ago. It is all matching except the grips and screws which are replacements. I bought it from a vet's son who got it from his father. His father claimed it was run over by a tank in France. More likely it was used as a hammer or something which caused the grips to break. The replacement grips are nicely made and fit well but they just look too "new". I removed them, sanded them lightly with 220 grip to smooth them a bit. Now I'd like to BLO them, but don't know if that is the way to go.
What do you guys think?
