    Hungarian G98/40 Questions

I am looking into purchasing a Hungarian G98/40 and I don't know much about the rifles. The rifle that I am looking at is a jhv 42. It appears to be all matching (bolt, stock, bands, receiver, etc.).

The barrel has an identicle firing proof as the receiver, but I was surprised to see that it was not serial numbered. I have looked at many pictures of these rifles, and it seems that some have the barrel numbered, and some don't. Another unusual feature is that this rifle's stock is configured for both the Nazi-style sling, as well as the Hungarian sling (which can be found on a 43m).

Could this be a late 1942 manufactured prototype between a G98/40 and the 43M? What is the going price for a G98/40 with these features.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sure sounds like you have a post war used rifle. A handfull of these were imported and pulled out for sale buy Kurt Ellison before he passed away.

This may not be much help, but I read an article on these some time back, and I seem to recall that it stated that in the conversion process to make these for German service, some of the original Hungarian stocks were modified for German slings which would explain both sling styles.
          Cheers,
          Johnnie

I cannot post pictures (I'm not an association member). The condition of the rifle is excellent, I would say 90-95%.

What is the ballpark price for these rifles? Is $800-$1000 about right or am I high.

I would think that based on the rarity they would be in the high endo f a matching k98.
