I remember the last K98 you posted to the forums- you said it came from the same vet- it was supposedly an SS marked gun if I remember right. Do you still have that rifle, or did you sell it? I would imagine that anything in Europe relating to WW2 has commercial value- some guns are faked not for profit but out of boredom, and so the owner can claim to have a rare variation of something. In this case, they obviously did not have any reference to go by, other than some writings in a book? I guess fear of fakery is something difficult for someone in Europe to understand.

absolutely 2 diffrent sources. When such rifles are coming out they are "mauser". Marking, maker, quality are out of the subject. You have to understand that ther is no knowledge about these then I don't know where could be the intersest to add some everything else on a rifle the vet or civilian will always describe as "german mauser". Types collectors are typically US, by the same effect SS daggers are always at the same price without any references to the rarity of the maker (I'm speaking about direct purchases not from some of the rare specialized dealers (absolutely not to recommend)
There are so much mausers left after by the german and stored in families since the war that you can't imagine.
My father was playing to explose the 98K barrels putting them into the ground and shooting a round. One shot, one rifle and after that they throwed them into the lake and that till the late 50's
Just to give you an idea, to start a fire at home in the earth they use powder from 88 shells.

Coming from a marine arsenal M could be for marine, or for Marlene if it is a tatoo. We will never know with the fakers
Originally posted by Mike StevesThe bottom line is, the only person who has to be happy with the rifle and believe it is Kriegsmarine is you-- everyone else doesn't matter.

As it is made in china it is quite normal, as If I remember well another thread bcd bought parts from several suppliers and it is not uncommoin to find mismatched parts.
But if you feel thefinish is not original from a pic, I'm sure you're right
Originally posted by jack944The front band is not original finish. I collect Bcd rifles and helped research BBOTW. The machining and finish are wrong.Last edited by jujuy; 12-02-2005, 03:07 AM.
