    A K43 for Bill Petz

    HI Guys,

Bill asked me to post this since I haven't gotten around to sending him pics.I picked this up a few months ago. I'm not a weapons collector so my criteria is somewhat different from the true weapons aicianado. I wanted this to display with one of my mannequins.

From what I know its a solid piece unfortunately the stock is mismatched and has been fooled with.

But please comment, I won't be offended.

    jim

heres the last picture. The stock appears to have been sanded down a little. But the TWO WAA stamps can still be seen. The SN doesn't match the weapon.Jim

            Jim,

Very nice K43. You are correct in saying it was played with or should I say put together because alot of the numbers do not match. Still I wouldn't turn it down if you offered it to me!! It makes for a very nice display piece with either your or my collection. Bill

              hey Bill,

Actually its only the stock that doesn't match. The rest of the parts all read 7112 I think. Anyhow it fits in nice with the collection. I know you can always use anotherone ha,ha. Just be glad I'm not greedy or I could have had 2 of these Jim

Jim, I agree......There's no shame in a nice looking rifle......Although it's a shame stock #'s don't match, IMHO this is something that is sometimes overemphasized when one is looking for rifles....As the prices for the matched pieces go up, the nice looking mis-matched pieces will become more and more desirable....One fortunate aspect is, you were able to get it with a proper BLM made stock in comparable condition with the rest of the weapon.....Bodes

                  Hey Jim,

Are you saying I'm greedy!!! I believe the serial number on the bolt is different anyway I seem to wind up with some of your weapons in the long run!!! - Bill

Jim, Serial #'s look fine IMHO......The squiggle thing to the right of the SN is the lower case 'a' suffix......Bodes

                          Jim,

You are rigbht. I couldn't tell from your first photo....so that is good and I wouldn't worry too much about the stock. I see they boys are fully armed now ready for Battle. - Bill

I was looking through Hitlers Garands tonight and in it the author stated that a number of "qve 45", K43s were actually put together in the factory with mismatched stocks(page 302). I don't know how to prove mine was one of them.

I assume that the reason matched pieces are worth more is because it shows that the weapon is in the same condition (parts wise) that it left the factory in. What if it was mismatched at the factory to begin with?

                            Jim

Jim, IMO it would be very difficult to prove.....IF the serial #'s were off slightly, I'd say it was indeed a factory mis-match.....As I've seen this phenomenom quite often on late war MP44's.....When time comes to sell, I would believe it would fetch the money of a mis-matched rifle, slightly higher because of condition.......Bodes
